My goal as a physical education teacher is to set students up for a lifetime of physical fitness. I will keep them motivated and interested in behaviors that will help them throughout their lives. A strong base of both motor skills and also fitness knowledge will lead to a healthy relationship with fitness and wellness. I will work with general education teachers, school administrators, parents, and community members to ensure that physical activity goals are met. Regular performance-based assessments will be made in order to keep students on the right path and to track their progress. Every child is different, and that means every child learns differently; I will make sure to cater to all of the different learning styles and stages of development.

Health and physical education are of the utmost importance in school curricula. It helps the students gain a base of knowledge for a lifetime of fitness both inside and outside the classroom. Students need to learn basic concepts, movements, and skills that can be applied to real-life. Physical education helps children grow, understand, and use their changing physiques in the correct way. Students will also learn how to play with peers fairly and have healthy communication skills

Activities must always be developmentally appropriate, rather than age or grade-level appropriate. Basic gross motor movements such as running, hopping, rolling, throwing, and catching will be taught first which can then be translated to more specific skills in sport in the future. Students will learn locomotor, nonlocomotor, and manipulative skills that can be applied to everyday life, sport, and social settings.

Performance-based assessment drives accountability. It will help students remember what they learn and apply it to life. Students will demonstrate their motor skills, engage in interpersonal communication activities, and participate to the best of their ability every class. Students will be assessed regularly throughout the school year, which helps identify which students are falling behind and which students are grasping the lesson. I will then use performance-based assessment to modify my class and create a positive learning environment for every student.

Students need to develop a healthy relationship with physical fitness. In order to foster this relationship, all activities and explanations must be developmentally appropriate. Students will feel more confident in their abilities if the task is appropriate for their developmental stage. They will gain proficiency of motor movements through the skill theme approach and regular performance assessments. Once the students have the foundation, they will be set to live a healthy and physically active lifestyle.
